University of California (UC) Application Checklist

Every fall, there is a certain atmosphere of excitement, hope, and nervousness among educational institutions. More specifically, it is during the month of November that high school students as well as community college students begin the University of California (UC) application process. This is a procedure that requires good planning, time management, and thoroughness. To insure that a University of California application is filled out to the best of their ability, there are a number of different things an applicant can do. One of the most important, and what we will be focusing on, is a creating and maintaining an updated and completed checklist of the materials and documents needed for the UC application.

The UC Application Checklist

 

1. High school/College Transcripts: Within the UC application process, there will be a page or step that will require the applicant to enter their academic record or grades. It is very important for the applicant to have a copy of their high school or college transcript on hand in order to complete this step in the application process
2. Test Scores: This requirement applies primarily to high school students as all University of California campuses require high school applicants to partake in a number of various placement tests. These tests include the SAT I (or the ACT which is the equivalent), as well as at least (2) SAT II subject tests (the subject is chosen by the applicant)
3. Activities and Awards: Another important step in the UC application process is the Activities and Awards section. By creating a comprehensive and thorough list of their achievements, an applicant to the UC system has the ability to easily represent themselves and show the UC admissions board a more in depth look of the individual that they are
4. Annual Income: Within the UC application process, there is a step that will inquire the applicant’s household annual income (this step is usually used to determine an applicant’s eligibility for financial aid)
5. Parents’ Residency: An applicants’ parents’ residency information would include items such as the date of immigration as well as the place or state of legal residence
6. Social Security Number: Within the UC application process, the Social Security Number of the individual is usually asked for (if the applicant possesses one)
7. ELC ID Number (If applicable): ELC stands for Eligibility in the Local Context and applies specifically to freshman applicants. ELC stands for the top (4%) of students in every participating California high school class
8. Citizenship Status: It is significant to note that if an applicant is not a citizen of the United States, the type of Visa held is very important
9. Credit Card Number: Towards the end of the UC application process, an applicant will be required to produce a Credit Card Number in order to pay for the application fees over the Internet
10. Statewide Student ID (optional): This is an optional segment of the UC application process, and if an applicant does not know where to obtain this ID number, it is usually available to them through the help of a counselor or registrar
