UC TAG Applications Go Online

University of California (UC) TAGs

University of California (UC) TAGs

UC Santa Cruz is one of 10 UC’s that has traditionally done their Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) agreements on paper.  Recently, UCSC made the decision to change the way in which they take TAG applications.  To improve the process of applying for a TAG agreement, UC has introduced a new online TAG application that was made available July 1, 2010. The new TAG tool has that capability to now allow community college counselors to do online reviews and approvals.  This not only saves time, but reduces paperwork for all involved.

The URL for the new online TAG application will be: TAG Tool

According to the Associate Director of Admissions at UCSC,

“We are very excited about this new TAG tool,” said Michael McCawley. “I believe this will be a win-win-win situation. Prospective students, community college counselors, and the UC campuses should all benefit from this bold initiative.”

All UC campuses that offer a TAG will use the new online application, which will use the student’s self-reported academic information. UC campuses that used to require official or unofficial transcripts as a part of their TAG process will no longer be requiring them to apply for a TAG.

In addition to saving time, the new online application provides:

  • Self-service advisement within the application
  • More efficient and timely communication among students, their TAG campuses, and their community colleges
  • Improved communication between the UCs and the community colleges
  • Reporting capabilities for community colleges

The UC TAG campuses have also agreed to a common filing period for TAG applications.

Students will now be required to file their electronic TAG applications between September 1 and 30 for fall 2011 consideration.

Important Dates for Fall 2011 TAGs:
September 1-30, 2010 TAG filing period
September 1-October 15, 2010 CCC authorization for UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Cruz
No later than November 15, 2010 UC campuses post TAG decisions
November 1-30, 2010 Fall 2011 application filing period for UC

Do online courses from community colleges transfer to UC’s for the TAG program?

    Nia-

Great question! I have a lot of students that have signed TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) agreements and ask the same thing:

“Do the online classes I’ve taken transfer to a UC?”

The answer is yes, they do as long as the course was UC or CSU transferable to begin with and was listed as such in your college catalog. Often, the teacher hands out a syllabus the first day of class and it states if the class is transferable or not.

Here’s an example, if you take English 1A or English 100 at your community college and it is transferable to a UC or CSU, then it doesn’t matter if you take it online or in the classroom, the class is still transferable.

    Thanks,
