College Admissions
It’s that time of year where all the transfer students that applied to the University of California (UC) schools are finding out if they were accepted into the universities of choice. This is a time of excitement, stress and anxiety for these students as they have put so much work and effort into getting to where they are, awaiting their fate by sitting in front of a computer signing in to their application accounts or awaiting an email notification.
This past Friday, April 30th was the first day that students who applied to the University of California, Berkeley found out if they were accepted for admissions. The way in which these students find out if they were accepted is by signing into an application account they have set up with the universities they are applying for. As you can imagine, students anxiety levels skyrocket signing into these accounts.
After interviewing one Skyline College student, Agueda Mendez, she shed some light into her experience going through the application process and being accepted into UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, and San Francisco State University.
Applying to four year colleges as a transfer student wasn’t hard at all. The hard part is not procrastinating. It’s very easy to wait until the due date to complete the transfer application and your personal statement. I encourage students not to do that!
The process of applying to UC Berkeley, for example, was pretty easy. Once they receive your application, they send you a letter in the mail with instructions. Those instructions include a special code that you need to access to your online account they set up for you. Everyone was told to check their application status this past Friday, April 30th but they were having a few problems with the system in the morning. System administrators encouraged students to check back in the evening while they worked out the problems.
Once I signed in, I read ‘Congratulations! I am pleased to offer you admission to the University of California, Berkeley for Fall 2010!’
Transfering community college students are on cloud nine after reading the acceptance letter that also states:
As a Berkeley student, you will
- follow in the footsteps of distinguished scholars who studied at the world’s premier public university
- interact with a diverse group of students and forge lasting friendships in your quest for intellectual growth and academic excellence
- join a dynamic, supportive community that offers a wide range of educational, recreational, and social opportunities
As students hear back from four year universities, it’s important to not forget about finishing their classes that they are still taking at the community college level. Your acceptance to a university is contigent on you passing all of the classes you are registered in this semester. Also, remember to fill out the Federal Student Aid or FAFSA for next year. Here is a helpful Free Application for Federal Student Aid Guide. So now celebrate, tell friends, be excited, but also finish up the semester strong and keep doing what you’ve been doing for the past 2, 3 or even more years!
Congratulations to all of you transferstudents that are getting the good news.
