UCSD (University California of San Diego) Mascot Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) at UC San Diego (UCSD)

This Fall (2010), community college students who have been in college for a year or two might find themselves busy during the months of September, October, and November. The reason for this is due to the preparation required for transfer applications to the various four year universities one wishes to attend. In the state of California, many community college students have their minds set on the campuses offered by the University of California system, and not just for their highly renowned academic programs. It is a program, specifically the TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) Program that attracts so many transfer students to the UC (University of California) system.

Of the seven UC campuses offering TAGs, UC San Diego is a popular choice for a number of reasons. Besides the beautiful weather in the city of San Diego, UCSD was deemed “2nd in the nation based on the positive impact the university as on the country” by Washington Monthly’s 2009 College Guide and “One of the 10 most powerful research universities in the U.S.” by the Nature Yearbook of Science and Technology.

How to Participate in the UCSD TAG Program

1. Submit the UC TAG Online Application Form

  • This online form is due by the end of the month of September 2010 (it is important to note that this is a separate form from the UC Admissions Application form)

2. Submit the UC Admission Application form online

  • Be sure to check the UCSD TAG as well as the IGETC boxes on this application form. This online form is due by the end of the month of November 2010 (although suggested that applicants submit their forms earlier because of potential UC server crashes)

3. Meet UCSD TAG Requirements:

  • Achieve a cumulative 3.0 minimum UC GPA by the end of Fall 2010
  • Complete both of the UC English courses and the UC math course by the end of Fall 2010
  • Maintain your 3.0 UC GPA from the end of Fall 2010 through Spring 2011
  • Complete your IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) Requirements
  • (These courses must be completed by no later than Spring 2011, and you will be required to submit your IGETC certification form by July 15th, 2011)

* UCSD accepts TAG agreements only to their campus, and not into specific majors.

Unit Requirements and Limitations

  1. A minimum of 60 UC-transferable semester units (or 90 UC-transferable quarter units) are required in order to transfer at the Junior level at UCSD
  2. If you have 90 or more semester units (135 or more quarter units) at an accredited four-year university and community college combined, you are classified as having senior standing, and the TAG does not apply to you
  3. You cannot reach senior standing with community college units only. A maximum of 70 semester (105 quarter) units will be recognized toward graduation from UCSD, and units above this limit would be awarded subject credit
  4. Any AP (Advanced Placement) and International Baccalaureate units earned prior to high school graduation does not apply to the unit limitations
