Wisconsin Education Board Steps In

This is the state of Wisconsin’s regulatory board that oversees for-profit colleges. This state agency has demanded that Westwood College stop enrolling students immediately. If Westwood refuses to comply, they could find themselves with a fine of $500 for every day that they’re in operation.

The complaint filed by a former Westwood College student grabbed the attention of state officials and they acted promptly to protect the safety of their community. A college who doesn’t take the time to seek out the necessary accreditation is a college who really isn’t serious about providing a quality education.

What does this mean for online education?

Well, the leading online colleges such as the University of Phoenix have already obtained the necessary license to provide education in the state of Wisconsin. This is one of the things that proves that we must be careful when considering online colleges. Going to college is something that you do for a degree, and you don’t want a college that can’t legally provide you with that.

This is also a good test to see how government agencies would react to such a situation. It proves that we’re always prepared when the time comes, but sometimes we can’t do much until we get a little bit more intel on the situation.
