The University of Washington (UW) has now become the backbone of the state’s higher education system. In one recent article, college administrators were quoted as thinking of the college as both the “racehorse and workhorse” for the state.  Washington does not have the same public university system as other states such as California that has the University of California and California State University systems.  Because of this, the University of Washington reserves 4,000 spots for in state freshmen.

Similar to other institutions on the East Coast, like Georgetown for example, UW doesn’t appear to have money constraints.  The college scenery and architecture is picturesque of the old and traditional colleges with elegant buildings and much tradition.  As is the case in a bad economy, UW brings in more federal grant money than any other public institution in the country.

The University of Washington raised $2.7-billion in a recent campaign from its perch in this entrepreneurial city.
