Simply put, scholarships are free money. Now you may be wondering, why would anyone want to give money away for free? The answer is because the people and organizations that award scholarships to students do so in order to further the education of that individual. Depending of the donor or founder of the scholarship, each scholarship has certain and distinctive criteria that must be met (for example, a scholarship awarded by a businessman might require the student applying for the scholarship to be a business major, etc.)
