When you’re in college, you need to try and maintain a healthy sleeping pattern or you will greatly affect your performance in class and lectures, and especially when you’re trying to do your homework. The most obvious way in which you can prevent under sleeping is to get a good night’s sleep! – The best way to stay alert is to rest at night well. The average adult person needs about 8 hours of sleep at night, so aim for 9. This way you’ll stand a better chance of waking up naturally rather than having to get out of bed due to the alarm on your bedside table. This is much more healthier for you.

You should also try to get up and stretch every so often when you’re working. It’ll get your blood going again and keep you sane. Rub your eyes a little, stand up and walk around. Exercise your eyes a little bit, especially if you’ve been working on a computer for a longer period of time. This should provide you with a little more energy and much more focus. Embrace napping during the day. What’s called a power nap: these usually consist of a 30-60 minute quick nap to give you a boost during the day, and these can be brilliant. Just take some time to close your eyes and let your body relax. If need be, simply set the alarm for 60 minutes ahead and take some time out if you can.

A lot of people like to take a proper walk rather than just walking around the office too. If you can, preferably on your break, go out and walk around the local park if you can for some refreshing air. You can also think about listening to upbeat or your favorite music of choice, it’ll keep you motivated, focused and on task. It’ll also prevent you from being bored!

Lowering the temperature can also work as your body will stop getting drowsy and start feeling more focused and alert. Don’t get cold, but don’t get hot. Try to maintain that 20 degree room temperature so you feel relaxed, calm and ready.
