Phoenix Arizona – The AIMS scholarships has been providing Arizona high school students with the opportunity to go to college for free without any strings being attached.

All the students had to do was exceed all of the sections of this standardized test that they are given when they’re in the 10th grade. When a student exceeds these areas (writing, math, and reading), they automatically qualify for the AIMS scholarship and their tuition becomes waived completely.

This is a tremendous motivator when it comes to assuring that students are doing their best on Arizona’s Instrument for Measuring Standards test, but the future of these college scholarships is starting to look pretty dark.

With the average tuition for Arizona State University seeing an increase of $3,500 since this scholarship was introduced, fulfilling the demand is become a very hard task to accomplish. This is one reason that the Arizona Board of Regents is having a meeting in August to vote on whether or not the AIMS scholarship will still be offered.

There are many officials in the education department that see this scholarship as something that they need to continue as it has a tremendous impact on the education that students are able to get when they’re attending school. After all, Arizona wants high test scores, so they definitely are making sure the students know everything that they need to know.

The average savings if this goes through is about 12.5 million dollars. Part of this savings will be put into other scholarships and college funding, but the rest will become dispersed as the state government sees fit.

For current students who have already qualified for this scholarship, you will not be affected. However, for some families that were relying on this scholarship, it could be a big disappointment.

If this scholarship becomes discontinued, there’s no telling how much a decrease we’ll see in the student bodies all across the state. This is just a risk that comes with the decision that the Arizona Board of Regents now has to make next month.
