I’ve been expanding upon scholarships a lot here at College to Careers lately. One thing that I like is how diverse college scholarships are, since they come in all different types. Sometimes, you just might be surprised at what people and companies are willing to offer scholarships for.
These particular college scholarships news story comes from Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Scholarships are mostly used to stimulate improvement in certain areas.
Whether it’s providing a scarce workforce with educated employees, making sure that their is always diversity in the workforce, or in this case staying on the right side of the law.
It’s great to see things look at from a whole lot of different ways and this is one way that will truly have an impact on the communities who benefit from having these students as a part of their society.
Project FLAVA participant were the lucky college scholarship recipients.
Project FLAVA is a program which works specifically with students who don’t have the same opportunities as others. In fact, without this program, many of these students would find themselves having a bed at the local juvenile detention center.
It starts off when the students are in middle school and it goes with them all the way until they graduate from high school. This program provides a great alternative students by enriching them academically as well as mentally.
8 Scholarships Were Awarded
For this program, this was the first graduating class and their staff has been working hard for 2 years trying to get the funding for all of the participants to go to college. However, only 8 scholarships were awarded in total, with most being $500 scholarships for books and supplies.
While every student may not have received a scholarship for staying away from crime, they surely had an experience that will stay with them for a lifetime. I must add that the participants of this program really seem to be the role models that we need from the younger generation, at least that’s what I’ve been able to gather from the reports on this particular program.
