Career coaching is something that just about every student needs, but sometimes they are not pushed in the right direction or they are given pretty confusing advice. The coaches that are assigned to students are not always the best people to be helping in certain types of situations, so it makes sense why they sometimes tell them things that they probably should not have.

A lot of students have complained about the career coaching they got because it just didn’t work for them. This can be because the student didn’t tell them enough about what they wanted or it could just be some goofy advice that was never going to work out. Either way, it seems to happen a lot these days and it needs to stop. Being more open with the feedback could be a great way to provide them better training.

There are also some folks who have been told to go in a whole new direction than they had originally planned on going with their professional life. When this happens, a lot of wasted time can be spent on things that the person should be no where near, but because they were told that it was something that would work, they tried it out. The blame could be thrown either way here, but it is unfortunate that some students are sometimes told to go down a path that they shouldn’t have been.

Some people who have gone into the career coaching business are just not fit for that job, so many people are unfortunately going to be let down by this process. When you get any advice from someone who doesn’t know what they are talking about, that is bad enough. But these people are given a very important job that has a heavy impact on young people’s lives. That’s why there should maybe be more screening done to make sure that the very best are given these positions.

Remember that you are the only one who really knows what you want to do with your life. You want to get some good career advice from the person giving you your career coaching, but you shouldn’t let them choose your future for you. If you think that the career coach who you have is not the one who will be able to help you the most, then be sure to request someone else. Do not be embarrassed to do so because it really is all about how you can get the most out of the service.

The fact is that career coaching is there if you need to use it, but you should know why you are going to use it and what you want to get out of it. The strange and sometimes terrible advice that people are given can be avoided if you recognize right away what you need from them. Too often folks try to just go through this phase of their lives too fast without really thinking about how they can take full advantage of it.
