Make the Most of Your UC Application
Published on Friday, November 26th, 2010 by Ken Category: UC and CSU
With the UC Application deadline quickly approaching (less than a week until November 30th), there are many important aspects of the UC Application that need to be addressed. Of these aspects, Scholarships and Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) are of particular importance. The reasoning for this is because filling in the Scholarship and (EOP) section of the UC Application provides you the opportunity to show the admissions officers a little bit more about your background – who you are based on your educational interests, achievements, and needs.
Do not overlook the scholarship section. The scholarship section includes many different categories and drop-down menus including:
- Academic Major/Specialty
- Affiliation with Group, Program or Organization
- Ancestry or Family Relationship
- Career Plans
- Ethnicity, National Origin or Religion
- School or Geographic Affiliation
- Special Conditions
- Miscellaneous

Although it is optional, these scholarships are a great opportunity to provide additional personal details about yourself as well as financial support for your education at the University of California. The process is simple: just click on the category you are interested in, and check the box for the area of scholarship you wish to apply for. Each applicant is allowed a total of 16 selections from all 9 scholarship categories combined.
The second important part of the applicant mentioned earlier (EOP), is found on the following page on the UC Application. In this section, applicants from California or American Indians within the United States have the option of apply for EOP, or the Educational Opportunity Program. This is a program that basically provides assistance to those coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. If one were to apply for EOP, they would need to enter their parents’ level of education, family size and income later in the UC Application.

To begin the application process for EOP, simply check to the box under the heading Educational Opportunity Program and proceed with the rest of your applicant.
It is my hope that this article has provided you assistance in your application process. And remember, although application season is a time of nervousness and stress, it is also important to take a step back and relax, as a new chapter of your education is about to begin.
