Employers More Likely to Hire New College Graduates

San Francisco, CA (Collegetocareers.com) – According to a recent survey, employers in the recovering economy are more likely to hire recent college graduates than not.
The National Association of Colleges and Employers released the recent data to reflect the confidence-boosting jump in employment rates for recent college graduates, a groundswell of more than 50 percent from last year, according to The Rockford Register Star.
The survey is good news to the millions of American college students who plan to graduate this year.
The Register Star reports that the 2008 recession threw millions of college graduates and then-current students off-kilter, as employers slashed older employees and staffers with far greater experience.
The rate at which older and more experienced employees entered the economy greatly hindered the ability of recent graduates to nab jobs in their fields, forcing many to simply enter graduate school and prepare themselves for a better economy upon graduation.
According to Reuters, the dismal economy convinced a number of recent college graduates to choose careers atypical of their degree plans, including stints in the military, Peace Corps, and other organizations.
The recent survey and the data it yields signifies a change in the rate of success at which students are now able to enter the workforce – and obtain jobs of their choice.
In March, the unemployment rates for people ages 20-25 fell to 15 percent, according to The Register Star –an optimistic note in otherwise still-gloomy recovering economy and job pool for recent graduates.
By contrast, over 17 percent of recent college graduates failed to grab jobs in March 2010. Four years earlier, in 2007, twice the number of college graduates had been able to secure jobs in their respective fields and industries.
What do you think? Are you more optimistic about your ability to nab a job after graduation, or do you feel that you could benefit from a few years in graduate school? Feel free to leave your comments below.
