The criminal justice industry is rapidly evolving. What used to be the realm of police officers, probations officers, clerks, prison guards, etc has now evolved into a much more specialized and technical field. In addition, the United States government has funded rapid expansion of programs like the homeland security department, with it opening the door to thousands of new jobs in the field. A degree in criminal justice can be a stepping stone to a career as a lawyer, an officer of the peace, an agent in the federal bureau of investigation, an officer in United States customers, and many more exciting fields. In addition, the industry is experiencing rapid expansion across the board. It is projected that from the year 2006 until 2016, the industry will expand and employ an increase of 10-15% more individuals with degrees in criminal justice.

In many related occupations, a degree is not required to get your foot in the door. But in most cases, a degree is absolutely required to get on the fast track of promotion and tenure which will increase your pay many times over. A criminal justice degree will end up paying for itself in the form of higher salary, greater job security, higher demand and better health/job benefits. If you’re considering a job in this exciting field it is highly recommended that you pursue at least an associates degree, and preferably a bachelors.
