What is a College Scholarship?
Simply put, college scholarships are free money. Now you may be wondering, why would anyone want to give money away for free? The answer is because the people and organizations that award scholarships to students do so in order to further the education of that individual. Depending of the donor or founder of the scholarship, each college scholarship has certain and distinctive criteria that must be met (for example, a college scholarship awarded by a businessman might require the student applying for the scholarship to have a college major in business, etc.)
Different Types of College Scholarships
Unknown to most students and people in general, there are many different types of scholarships available to those who seek financial aid. Scholarships can be awarded by almost anyone interested in helping a student or individual further their education, and can range anywhere from small awards of $500 to a “full-ride” at a university .

As you can see from the list of just a few different groups that offer scholarships to individuals in need of financial aid, scholarships are hardly scarce – all it takes to receive financial aid for your education is a little bit of searching. It is understandably difficult to search and seek out scholarships for college on your own, and there are many different people within the educational system that can make this process easier for you. For instance, whether you attend a high school, community college, or university, there are college counselors who know more information about scholarships and how to obtain them than you can imagine. In addition to your counselors, there are always specialized financial aid workers at most high schools, colleges, and universities that are available to help you on your way to a financially secure education.
