If you’re debating on what to major in or if the career you are choosing is one you will like, then an internship is for you. Doing an internship while in school will later prevent an emotional and stressful career change later. Most colleges and universities look highly on seeing internship involvement on your college application. In addition, an internship provides you with a competitive edge in your career field. If you’re not sure if the knowledge you’ve gained can be put to good use in real life, you can more accurately gauge how you will perform on an actual job site by being part of one. This is like giving a specific career a test drive. Hopefully, your studies and course work have served you well enough to perform well. What most companies are looking for is hard work, dedication, determination, and communication skills. These are all things that you may or may not have learned in school.

Keeping a rolodex or stack of business cards of appropriate businesses and individuals to be part of your future business operations is a great starting point.
Test your career choice – Internships allow you to get involved and witness what goes into the business your studying first hand. With nothing left for the imagination, you can more appropriately decide whether or not the internship will yield a job you’ll be happy with.
